All Press Releases

Curt Walters began 2014 on a high note, receiving the Lifetime Achievement award from the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona. He ended 2014 in Spain, where he toured and painted the Cities of the Conquistadors, while searching for replicas of 16th century armor and accoutrement. He is looking forward to his next one-man show and retrospective, scheduled for Summer 2016, at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

Previously, at Prix de West, Walters has been honored with the Nona Jean Hulsey Buyers’ Choice Award in 1998, 2002, 2007, 2011, and 2013; and the Frederick Remington Award back to back in 2004 and 2005, and then again in 2013. He was honored with a double win in 2007 for the Buyers’ Choice Award for Ra’s Domain and the Prix de West Purchase Award for Spring’s Caprice, the only time in the history of the show that an artist has won two awards for different paintings in the same show.

Curt was featured in Western Art Collector in September 2009 for his retrospective show “Moments and Monuments” at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He was also honored with a show in 2012 as a Rendezvous artist at Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2011, Southwest Art named him one of the “Forty Prominent people in the Western Art World.” Art of the West magazine was the first to herald him as the “Greatest Living Grand Canyon Artist” in 1997, and as one of “Eight True Masters” in 2007.  Curt was also honored in 2008 with the Trustees’ Purchase Award for his large Grand Canyon painting Splendid Turmoil at the Autry Museum, Los Angeles, California.
