The painting “Winter’s Levity,” by Master Artist Curt Walters, has found a permanent home at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Walters and sculptor Veryl Goodnight are the featured artists for this year’s Rendezvous Artists’ Retrospective Exhibition and Art Sale, hosted by the Gilcrease. The show runs through July 10, 2011.
Winter’s Levity” was painted near Powell Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Purchased by a private donor for the Gilcrease Museum Collection, the 50″ x 80″ painting will hang in the American Gallery between a Bierstadt and a Moran, two of Walters’ idols.
A number of museums across America already display Walters’ artwork, including the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, The Autry National Center, The Eiteljorg Museum, Forbes Art Galleries, the Leanin’ Tree Museum and more.
Walters, who makes his home in Sedona, Arizona, was proclaimed the “Greatest Living Grand Canyon Artist” by Southwest Art in 1997, and “One of Eight TRUE Masters” a decade later. This year, he has been counted among the art magazine’s “40 Prominent People.”
He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award, the Trustees’ Purchase award from Masters of the American West, six Patrons’ Choice Awards from a variety of shows and many, many others.
Walters artwork can be found at Trailside Galleries of Scottsdale, AZ and Jackson, WY, the Clagget-Rey Gallery in Vail, CO and the Nedra Matteucci Galleries in Santa Fe, NM.
