February 4th marks the opening day of this year’s Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. Nearly 80 artists will be appearing at this year’s invitational, including Master Artist Curt Walters.
Originally invited to display his artwork at Masters in 1999, Walters took home the Patrons’ Choice Award that very year. In 2008, he won the highly coveted Trustees’ Purchase Award for his painting “Splendid Turmoil,” which is now part of the permanent collection at the Autry Museum.
Walters will enter four paintings into this year’s exhibition. The second entry is titled “Winter Sun on the Isis,” an oil on canvas measuring 20″x20″, which captures the fast moving light of a windy cold front as it passes over the canyon. “Last Day of Summer” and “Morning Before the Snow: Lake O’Hara” are both smaller plien aire oils on canvas board.
In addition to the Autry, Walters’ pieces can be found in the Gilcrease Museum, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, The Booth Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, The Forbes Magazine Galleries in New York, the Leanin’ Tree Museum in Boulder, the Pierce Art Museum in Corsicana, Texas the and at the Grand Canyon National Park.
