On one of my visits to Venice I was fortunate to arise early and catch the moon in this early morning plein air painting of San Giorgio Maggiore island as it looked just across from the waters of my hotel. The island and its Palladian church are an important landmark and has been the subject for all my art heroes, the series by Monet for instance. I was attracted to the very soft and delicate hues of the damp coastal air of that morning. I am extremely fond of this painting.
