In the fall of 1996 I spent two months travelling and painting in Italy. Seeing these historical sites, which I had previously only seen as a kid in the theatre, in a city I had longed to see all my life. It was beyond rewarding and exciting. This painting, done while in Rome, is of the Castel Sant’ Angelo and the Ponte Sant’ Angelo, which has spanned the Tiber River since the rule of Hadrian, circa 134 CE.
