Sedona has uniquely beautiful landscape vistas, containing many species of flora. Painting absorbs me totally, body and soul, and I become very attached to the views and the plants that I am painting. I have always been drawn to the Sedona yuccas and each spring, when the yuccas are blooming I am shocked by the recognition that growing population and development expansion are undermining Sedona’s ecology. The magnificent yucca groves thriving in sandy flat lands are among the most sensitive and threatened species. The yuccas I painted at this site will soon be bulldozed by a motel chain. My political statement is to paint with urgency and try to preserve images of a changing landscape that future generations may never see.
